USA vs. Ireland: special event

USA  vs Ireland

Asado Lamb Roast Offered After International Polo Match

One of the premier matches of Newport International Polo Series will feature USA vs. Ireland , followed by an authentic Asado Lamb Roast on Saturday, July 29th

The Asado tradition, spit-roasting lamb for hours over hot coals until it is fork-tender, has become a part of international polo culture, hand in hand with the influence and dominance of Argentine players in the sport.  The lambs are split lengthwise and fastened to a spit.  Hot coals are shoveled underneath for a long, slow roasting process.  The meat is seasoned with special herbs and spices.

The meal will be served field-side, under the main tent at the Newport International Polo Series, following the USA vs. Ireland match.  Both teams will be in attendance.  Asado tickets are $35/person and can be purchased with a credit card by calling 401-847-7090 or by mailing a check to: Newport Polo, 2503 East Main Road , Portsmouth , RI 02871 .  Seating is limited, and all reservations must be paid in advance, no later than July 25th.  Cash bar.  Polo match tickets sold separately at the gate.

The polo match begins at 5pm on the polo grounds of Glen Farm on route 138 in Portsmouth , RI and will be approximately 2 hours in duration, followed by the Asado.  One of the highlights of the season, this annual rivalry will feature USA playing against Ireland , who returns to Newport for their 15th consecutive match in the Polo Series.
